With the Bekins moving truck loaded....car and all, they head to Colorado.

We go our own way, south, then head for the Grand Canyon.
Beautiful !  Taking our time we continue west and
then north up to Denver.   I bought a house in Littleton
with neighbors 5 feet apart on both sides.... but it will do for now.
I go to work at the new office and do my best to get our fish buying dept.
set up.  I am the only buyer at the moment.....then, unfortunately,
the new guy comes on board.

My house is going up so fast, I can barely keep up with my blog.
This page was from yesterday and the framers are working on the top
floor today.
So, as far as my history, I will leave it at the moment that
my younger son and I are packing to move to Colorado and
my older son is going to stay in Walnut Creek and take
care of his new rental.

to be continued later today .......

A splendid day....working in the garden, listening to music and watching the framers frame my house.

Sweeet !
Early Monday morning ... nook sidewalls go up.

Working the east wall with Jeff cutting

Attaching door frame with side wall

cute or what ?

Tomorrow will be a very big day.  The interior walls
will go up, the decking for the two porches and,
I think, some fireplace chimney work.

 background history continued ...

I last left off ... the boy's and I have now  lived in Walnut Creek for 14 years.
My boss has announced his retirement and in the same breath tells us
our Fish Buying Dept. is moving its offices to Denver, Colorado
under the Meat Buying Dept.  Well, this is pretty big news.  I have
a huge decision to make.  I have worked at Safeway for a total of 19 years
and I am not quite old enough to retire.  If I decide to stay in Walnut Creek
what are my chances of landing another job that pays what I am making after
all of these years at Safeway and will pay my bills and house payment ?
The other two buyers have decided to leave Safeway and not
move their families to Colorado.  I had a few days to make
this decision.  To my surprise and that of everyone else, I once again,
accepted the position in the Denver office.

I'm starring out this window. Hello world it's me ! (Kottonmouth Kings)

View from my kitchen window.
Gluing the floor down..... in the rain.

Floor is finished,  now to the walls.

Working the first wall on it's side.

Ready to raise

This was very exciting watching the wall go up !

wow !
2nd side

3rd side (the nook)

Finished for the day, mostly because all of the lumber
was not delivered...framers will be back Monday or Tuesday.

The sun setting through my windows.
Eventually, my view will be Vaughn Bay, the spit,
Case Inlet, the Olympic Mountains and moon and sun sets !

Background history continued...........

Now, settled in Walnut Creek, in a nice house with a swimming pool, the boy's are in school, and I begin my new full-time buying position in the Safeway Fish Buying Dept.
At this time, my job was really pretty fun. My boss, Ed Hamilton, was just a great guy (still is),
he was my boss, father, friend and confidant. He was the one to help guide me up the corporate ladder and to establish a respected place within the seafood industry. At this time there were only a few women within the industry, and for me, it was a great experience. I had the opportunity to work in fish plants, travel from Boston to St. Mary's, Alaska (find that one on the map) and work with the people, I call 'the salt of the earth,' the fishermen.
The boy's and I got through their trials and tribulations of growing up and we enjoyed the warmer/dryer climate. I joined the Wind N' Sea sailing club and learned to sail a boat. My favorite duty was to man the jib boom, and I was pretty good at it, too. Our 14 years in W.C. was full but about to change, again. My favorite boss was retiring and Safeway was moving the fish buying office to Denver, Colorado. Oh my.
I just ran across a journal entry written 20 years ago:
"I just want to go home to Vaughn, I just want to build my house,
I just want my chickens...."

This is the scariest and most fun I have ever had.

After a very busy day and some confusion, we are now
waiting for the inspector's approval before resuming
the framing tomorrow.
My framers, James and Jeff,
are hardworking young men !

Dave at his best....it is amazing how he handles
this backhoe with such finesse and perfection,
keeping a keen eye on his work.
          and Herb....no machine for him,
only his shovel and muscle.

After a long day, a quiet reflection on what is to be.

Pequito checking out the new foundation.

My continued background history.....

I remember crossing the Golden Gate Bridge that morning with
the sun shinning brightly and both boy's looking on with excitement
for our new adventure.  I found and bought a house near the office in Walnut Creek,
it had a swimming pool....cool....because it was 110 degrees that day we moved in.
This would begin our 14 year stay in California.
